Are you looking for an internship opportunity to learn, develop and expand your competencies for the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, adults and their families? COMHAR's Outpatient Program may be for you!


COMHAR outpatient services help members maintain daily activities and provides tools to help them build and improve relationships with families and communities, and in workplaces, or schools. Services include Psychiatric Evaluation; Psychotherapy for Individuals, Groups and Families; Medication Assessment and Monitoring; Identification of Need for Other Services; and Referral to Community Resources.


Interns best suited to the program are those who are flexible, creative, self-driven, and eager to learn and practice. They strive to integrate classroom and real-world learning into their clinical work and are unafraid to consider new ideas. They are compassionate and recognize that the individuals served have a broad range of lived experiences that may be influenced by trauma, oppression, and injustice.


COMHAR offers three internship opportunities within its Outpatient Program: Enhanced Outpatient, Latino Treatment, and Specialized Services.


Enhanced Outpatient

Location: Kensington Area of Philadelphia 19134

Internship opportunities are open year-round to Advance Year Master's Level Graduates

**This internship is unpaid**


The Outpatient Enhanced Program provides a variety of Evidence Based Practices (EBP), providing individual, family, and group therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management services to children, adolescents, and adults.


Interns for this program will provide individual outpatient therapy services with a minimum caseload that is determined by the interns' schedule. This internship will include completing intakes within the program, providing clinical services, developing and implementing treatment plans, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and the potential for additional educational opportunities. Interns will receive supervision from a Licensed Clinical Supervisor once per week.

Latino Treatment Program

Location: Kensington Area of Philadelphia 19133

Internship opportunities are open to two (2) interns per year to Advance Year Master's Level Graduates

**Graduates must be bilingual (English/Spanish) due to the service population**

**This internship is unpaid**


The Outpatient Latino Treatment Program provides quality outpatient behavioral health services to a large population of Latinx members of the community in both English and Spanish. Services include individual, family, and group therapy, as well as psychiatric evaluations, and medication management.


Interns for this program will provide individual and family outpatient therapy services with a minimum caseload that is determined by the interns' schedule. This internship will include providing clinical services, developing and implementing treatment plans, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and provides a variety of Evidence Based Practices (EBP), providing individual, family, and group therapy. Interns will receive supervision from a Licensed Clinical Supervisor once per week.

Specialized Services 

Location: Center City (Broad Street) Area of Philadelphia 19110

Internship opportunities are open to two (2) interns per year who are students in their first or second year of their graduate school programs

Internship interest must be submitted by December 31, 2023: Currently Open

**This internship is unpaid**


The Outpatient Specialized Services Program provides an array of specialized behavioral health services. The program provides trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, services that are affirming to individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as individuals affected by specific chronic health conditions (such as HIV/AIDS). Many participants have experienced trauma, physical and sexual abuse, sexual violence, discrimination, depression and anxiety related to their health status or diagnosis, gender identity , sexual orientation, or mental health needs.


Interns for this program will provide individual, partner, or family outpatient therapy services with a minimum caseload that is determined by the requirements of the intern's university/college. This internship will include providing clinical services, developing and implementing treatment plans, participating in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, receiving once a week supervision, completing intakes within in the program, and clinical trainings. The program works within a network of social services and health providers to provide continuing support.

Internship Requirements

  • Enhanced and LTP Outpatient: Must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a mental health discipline from an accredited university and be in 2nd year of master’s program/or advanced standing.
  • Specialized Services: Must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a mental health discipline from an accredited university and be in 1st or 2nd year of master’s program/or advanced standing to participate.
  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Check
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
  • FBI Criminal Background Check completed through the Department of Human Services
  • COVID Vaccination
